Prayer for Wednesday (Holy Innocents)

I posted this last year on Holy Innocents and I cannot think of a better way to recognize this day than reposting it today. I have included the YouTube video featuring The King’s Singers in this post instead of separately as I did last year.

	Prayer of the Children
	Can you hear the prayer of the children on bended knee, in the shadow of an unknown room? Empty eyes with no more tears to cry turning heavenward toward the light. Crying,” Jesus, help me to see the morning light of one more day, but if I should die before I wake, I pray my soul to take.” Can you feel the hearts of the children aching for home, for something of their very own. Reaching hands with nothing to hold onto but hope for a better day, a better day. Crying,” Jesus, help me to feel the love again in my own land, but if unknown roads lead away from home, give me loving arms, away from harm.” Can you hear the voice of the children softly pleading for silence in their shattered world? Angry guns preach a gospel full of hate, blood of the innocent on their hands. Crying,” Jesus, help me to feel the sun again upon my face? O God, we thank You for the blessing of children in the world, for their beauty, innocence and laughter. Help us to remember that when we see a child, we are seeing Your face.

Bless all the children of the world, Lord, keep them close in Your heart. God, bless the souls of the children who continue to suffer day-to-day. Please be with them and heal their broken hearts and rescue them from all suffering and abuse. And we ask You to bless all those children who are close to us….

May we end the wars and suffering of the world by ending the wars and suffering in our own hearts through love and forgiveness. May you all hear the prayers of the children and do your part to make them come true. Amen.
