Prayer for Monday (Birthday of Rumi)

Today is the anniversary of the birth of Jalāl ad-Dīn Rumi, Sufi poet.

Wear gratitude like a cloak
and it will feed every corner of your life.
~ Rumi

O Thou, Who art the Maker, Molder, and Builder of the universe,
Build with Thine own hands the Universel,
Our Temple for Thy divine Message of Love, Harmony, and Beauty.

Prayer for Sunday

The Muslim holy month of Ramadan continues today.

Don’t be satisfied with stories,
how things have gone with others.
Unfold your own myth.
~ Jalaluddin Rumi

Oh Lord,
I seek more of You than to name Your Name…
We are the flute: our music is all Yours.
The light of the soul sets not and has no yesterday.
Love is the astrolabe of your secrets.
If the light that illuminates the world were to draw near,
The world would be consumed.

God you have chosen me to be Your house.
If I take annoyance at every rub
How wilt I become a polished mirror?
O God, show us all things in this house of deception:
Show them as they really are.
Through love the stake becomes a throne
Through love the king becomes a slave.

Our Soul, the breath of our praise, steals away
Little by little from the prison of this world…
Our breaths soar with the choice of words, as a gift from us
To the abode of everlastingness.
Then comes to us the recompense of our praise,
A recompense manifold from God the merciful.
Then You cause us to seek more good words, so that
Your servant may win more of Your mercy.
Verily the source of our delight in prayer
Is the divine Love which without rest
Draws the soul home.

(Jalaluddin Rumi)

Prayer for Sunday (Laylatul Bara’ah)

The Islamic holy observance of Laylatul Bara’ah begins at sundown.

The world is three days:
As for yesterday, it has vanished, along with all that was in it.
As for tomorrow, you may never see it.
As for today, it is yours, so work in it.
~ Imam Hassan al-Basri

The beauty of the heart
is the lasting beauty:
its lips give to drink
of the water of life.
Truly it is the water,
that which pours,
and the one who drinks.
All three become one when
your talisman is shattered.
That oneness you can’t know
by reasoning.

(Jalaluddin Rumi)

This Week’s Affirmation:

“I AM what I believe I AM.”

Prayer for Saturday (Tu B’Shevat)

Today is the Jewish holiday of Tu B’shevat. Today also begins the first of the three Navajo Sings for 2013.

In one moment,
we are now forever,
in one moment…
~ Paul Goldman, Journey Into Oneness

My place is in the Placeless, my trace in the Traceless;
I’m neither body nor soul, as I belong to the soul of the Beloved.

I have dispensed with duality, and seen the two worlds as One.
One I seek, One I know, One I see, One I call

He is the first, last, the outward and the inward,
I know none other than He, and He Who Is.

(Jalal ad-Din Muhammad Rumi)

This Week’s Affirmation:

“I am One with All Things,

Prayer for Tuesday

The Jewish holiday of Sukkot continues today.

If you want to find God,
hang out in the space between your thoughts.
~ Alan Cohen

Today, like every other day,
we wake up empty and frightened.
Don’t open the door to the study and begin reading.
Take down a musical instrument.
Let the beauty we love be what we do.
There are hundreds of ways to kneel and kiss the ground.

(Jelaluddin Rumi)

This Week’s Affirmation:

“I receive guidance and insight through meditation.”

Prayer for Wednesday (Lailat al-Qatr)

Tonight is the Muslim holiday of Lailat al-Qatr, commemorating the revelation of the Qu’ran to the Prophet Mohammad.

Your hand opens and closes, opens and closes.
If it were always a fist or always stretched open,
you would be paralyzed.
Your deepest presence is in every small contracting and expanding,
the two as beautifully balanced and coordinated as birds’ wings.
~ Rumi

Toward the One,
The perfection of Love, Harmony and Beauty,
The Only Being,
United with all the Illuminated Souls Who form the embodiment of the Master,
The Spirit of Guidance.

(Invocation by Hazrat Inayat Khan)

This Week’s Affirmation:

(Jelaluddin Rumi – 13th century Sufi mystic)

O love, O pure deep love, be here, be now.
Be all; worlds dissolve into your stainless endless radiance,
Frail living leaves burn with you brighter than cold stars;
Make me your servant, your breath, your core.
