Prayer for Sunday (Hajj)

Today is the first full day of the Muslim Hajj, the pilgrimage to Mecca. The Hindu festival of Navratri and the Zoroastrian festival of Ayathrem Ghambar continue today.

As you start to walk out on the way, the way appears.
~ Rumi

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Praise be to Allah, Lord of the Worlds,
The Beneficent, the Merciful.
Owner of the Day of Judgment,
You alone we worship; You alone we ask for help.
Show us the straight path,
The path of those whom You have favored.
Not the path of those who earn Your anger
nor of those who go astray.
The Surat Al-Fatihah in Arabic
Surah al-Fatihah (Qur’an 1:1-7)

“I have all the knowledge I need within me.”

Prayer for Tuesday

The Muslim holy month of Ramadan continues today.

A donkey with a load of holy books is still a donkey.
~ Traditional Sufi saying

Our Lord, You have not created all this in vain.
We proclaim Your purity.
So, save us from the punishment of Fire.

Our Lord, whomsoever You admit into the Fire,
he is disgraced by You indeed,
and for the unjust there are no supporters.

Our Lord, We heard a herald calling towards Faith:
‘Believe in your Lord.’
So we believed.

Our Lord, forgive us, then, our sins,
and write off our evil deeds,
and make us die only when we have joined the righteous.

Our Lord, give us what You have promised us through Your messengers,
and do not put us to disgrace on the Day of Judgement.
Surely you do not go back on Your promise.

(Qur’an 3:191-194, al-Imran)

This Week’s Affirmation:

“I rejoice for the success and abundance of others.”

Prayer for Monday (Ramadan begins)

The Muslim holy month of Ramadan begins at sunset today. Today also is the start of the Iroquois Green Bean Festival.

Realize deeply that the present moment is all you have.
Make the NOW the primary focus of your life.
~ Eckhart Tolle, The Power of Now

O Allah, O Lord of the Kingdom, You give kingdom to whom You will, and take kingdom away from whom You will; and You bestow honor on whom You will, and bring disgrace to whom You will. In your hand lies the betterment of everyone. You are surely powerful over everything. You make the night enter into the day, and make the day enter into the night; and You bring the living out from the dead, and bring the dead out from the living, and You give to whom You will beyond measure.

(Qur’an, Al-e-Imran 3:26-27)

This Week’s Affirmation:

“The past is gone. I live only in the present.”

Prayer for Thursday (Muharram)

Today is Muharram, the Muslim New Year. Today is also Bhaiya Dooj, the fifth and final day of the Hindu festival of Diwali, and the time of the Buffalo Dance for the Tewa peoples in southwestern U.S.

The measure of your life will not be in what you accumulate,
but in what you give away.
~ Wayne Dyer

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (peace be upon him) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

(Muslim Dua for Prosperity)

And if My servants ask you, O Prophet, concerning Me, tell them that I am quite near to them. I hear and answer the prayer of the suppliant, when he calls on Me. So let them respond to My call and believe in Me. (Convey this to them), perhaps they may be guided aright!
~ Qur’an, Surah Baqarah 2:186

This Week’s Affirmation:

“I gratefully accept all the health, wealth and happiness
that the universe pours into me every day.”

The Bahá’í holiday of the Declaration of the Báb begins this evening.

When you are sorrowful look again in your heart,
and you shall see that in truth you are weeping
for that which has been your delight.
~ Kahlil Gibran

From the earth did We create you,
and into it shall We return you,
and from it shall We bring you out once again.
~ Qur’an 20:55 (Surah Ta-Ha)

O Allah, ease upon him his matters,
and make light for him whatever comes hereafter,
and honor him with Your meeting
and make that which he has gone to better than that which he came out from.

(Muslim funeral prayer)

Prayer for Saturday (Milad un Nabi)

Today is the day that many Muslims celebrate the birth of the Prophet Muhammad (Allah’s Peace be upon him.)

My Lord, grant me wisdom, and include me with the righteous.
Let the example I set for the future generations be a good one.
Make me one of the inheritors of the blissful Paradise…
And do not forsake me on the Day of Resurrection.

Starting this week we will post a new affirmation on Sunday for the week
instead of every day.

Prayer for Friday

God is the light of the heavens and the earth. The likeness of His light is as a niche where a lamp burns — the lamp in a glass and the glass, as it were, a star for brilliance. The lamp is kindled from a blessed tree, an olive neither of the east nor the west, the oil of which is almost incandescent of itself without the touch of fire. Light upon light. God guides to His light whom He wills.

(Qur’an, Surah 24:35, Al-Noor)

It is glory enough for me
That I should be your servant.
It is grace enough for me
That You should be my Lord.

(Arabic prayer)

Today’s Affirmation:

“All things are possible when you are with God.”
