Prayer for Thursday (Maundy Thursday)

Holidays today: Maundy Thursday for Western Christians; Mahavira-jayanti for Jains; the Fast of the Firstborn begins at sunset for first-born Jewish men.

Into your hands, merciful Lord, we commend ourselves for this day; may we be aware of your presence until its end; remind us that in whatever good we do we are serving you; make us careful and watchful, so that in everything we may discern your will, and, knowing it, may gladly obey.

Prayer for Saturday

Having risen from sleep, I hasten to Thee, O Master, Lover of mankind, and by Thy loving-kindness, I strive to do Thy work, and I pray to Thee: Help me at all times, in everything, and deliver me from every worldly, evil thing and every impulse of the devil, and save me and lead me into Thine eternal kingdom. For Thou art my Creator, and the Giver and Provider of everything good, and in Thee is all my hope, and unto Thee do I send up glory, now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

Prayer for Sunday

Morning Prayer of the Optina1 Elders

Grant unto me, O Lord, that with peace of mind,
I may face all that this new day is to bring!
Grant unto me to dedicate myself completely to Thy Holy Will!
Guide and support me in all things every hour of this day!
Whatsoever tidings I may receive during the day,
teach me to accept tranquility in the firm belief
that all eventualities fulfill Thy Holy Will!
Govern Thou my thoughts and feelings in all I do and say!
When things unforeseen occur,
let me not forget that all cometh down from Thee!
Teach me to behave sincerely and sensibly toward every member of my family,
that I may bring confusion and sorrow to none!
Bestow upon me, my Lord, strength to endure the weariness of the day,
and to bear my part in all its passing events!
Guide Thou my will and teach me to pray, to believe, to hope, to be patient,
to forgive, and to love!
Amen

Prayer for Wednesday (Conversion of St. Paul)

O Lord, grant me to greet the coming day in peace. Help me in all things to rely on Your Holy will. In every hour of the day reveal Your will to me. Bless my dealings with all who surround me.

Teach me to treat all that come to me throughout the day with peace of soul, and with the firm conviction that Your will governs all.

In all my deeds and words guide my thoughts and feelings. In unforeseen events, let me not forget that all are sent by You. Teach me to act firmly and wisely, without embittering and embarrassing others.

Give me strength to bear the fatigue of this coming day with all that it shall bring.
Direct my will, teach me to pray, pray You Yourself in me.

Amen.

Prayer for Friday (Timkat)

Today is the Ethiopian Orthodox holiday of Timkat.

Grant unto me, my Lord, that with peace in mind I may face all that this new day is to bring. Grant unto me grace to surrender myself completely to Thy holy will. Instruct and prepare me in all things for every hour of this day. Whatsoever tidings I may receive during the day, do Thou teach me to accept them calmly, in the firm conviction that all eventualities fulfill Thy holy will. Govern Thou my thoughts and feelings in all I do and say. When things unforeseen occur, let me not forget that all cometh down from Thee. Teach me to behave sincerely and reasonable toward every member of my family and all other human beings, that I may not cause confusion and sorrow to anyone. Bestow upon me, my Lord, strength to endure the fatigue of the day and to bear my share in all its passing events. Guide Thou my will and teach me to pray, to believe, to hope, to suffer, to forgive, and to love. Amen.

Prayer for Sunday

Sunday Morning Prayer:
Almighty God, and most merciful father, who didst command the children of Israel to offer a daily sacrifice to thee, that thereby they might glorify and praise thee for thy protection both night and day, receive, O Lord, my morning sacrifice which I now offer up to thee; I yield thee humble and hearty thanks that thou has preserved me from the danger of the night past, and brought me to the light of the day, and the comforts thereof, a day which is consecrated of thine own service and for thine own honor. Let my heart, therefore, Gracious God, be so affected with the glory and majesty of it, that I may not do mine own works, but wait on thee, and discharge those weighty duties thou requirest of me, and since thou art a God of pure eyes, and wilt be sanctified in all who draw near unto thee, who doest not regard the sacrifice of fools, nor hear sinners who tread in thy courts, pardon, I beseech thee, my sins, remove them from thy presence, as far as the east is from the west, and accept of me for the merits of thy son Jesus Christ, that when I come into thy temple, and compass thine altar, my prayers may come before thee as incense; and as thou wouldst hear me calling upon thee in my prayers, so give me grace to hear thee calling on me in thy word, that it may be wisdom, righteousness, reconciliation and peace to the saving of the soul in the day of the Lord Jesus. Grant that I may hear it with reverence, receive it with meekness, mingle it with faith, and that it may accomplish in me, Gracious God, the good work for which thou has sent it. Bless my family, kindred, friends and country, be our God & guide this day and for ever for his sake, who ay down in the Grave and arose again for us, Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.
