God of all blessings,… [St. Andrew]

Today is the Christian Feast of Saint Andrew. The Jewish holiday of Hanukkah continues today.

O Lord that lends me life,
Lend me a heart replete with thankfulness.
~ William Shakespeare

God of all blessings, source of all life,
giver of all grace:

We thank you for the gift of life:
for the breath that sustains life,
for the food of this earth that nurtures life,
for the love of family and friends
without which there would be no life.

We thank you for the mystery of creation:
for the beauty that the eye can see,
for the joy that the ear may hear,
for the unknown that we cannot behold filling the universe with wonder,
for the expanse of space that draws us beyond the definitions of our selves.

We thank you for setting us in communities:
for families who nurture our becoming,
for friends who love us by choice,
for companions at work, who share our burdens and daily tasks,
for strangers who welcome us into their midst,
for people from other lands who call us to grow in understanding,
for children who lighten our moments with delight,
for the unborn, who offer us hope for the future.

We thank you for this day:
for life and one more day to love,
for opportunity and one more day to work for justice and peace,
for neighbors and one more person to love and by whom be loved,
for your grace and one more experience of your presence,
for your promise:
to be with us,
to be our God,
and to give salvation.

For these, and all blessings,
we give you thanks, eternal, loving God,
through Jesus Christ we pray. Amen.

Oh Allah! Whatever blessings… [Hannukah]

Today is the first full day of the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah.

All that we behold is full of blessings.
~ William Wordsworth

Oh Allah! Whatever blessings I or any of Your creatures rose up with, is only from You. You have no partner, so all grace and thanks are due to You. (Recommended to repeat three times.)

Oh my Lord! All grace is due to You, which is befitting to Your glorious presence and Your great sovereignty. (Recommended to repeat three times.)

Great and Eternal Mystery of Life [Thanksgiving Day]

Today is the multifaith US holiday of Thanksgiving. The Jewish holiday of Hanukkah begins at sunset today. It is also the Bahá’í holiday of the Ascension of ‘Abdu’l-Bahá.

On Thanksgiving Day we acknowledge our dependence.
~ William Jennings Bryan

Great and Eternal Mystery of Life, Creator of All Things, I give thanks for the beauty You put in every single one of Your creations.

I am grateful that You did not fail in making every stone, plant, creature, and human being a perfect and whole part of the Sacred Hoop.

I am grateful that You have allowed me to see the strength and beauty of All My Relations.

My humble request is that all of the Children of Earth will learn to see the same perfection in themselves.

May none of Your human children doubt or question Your wisdom, grace, and sense of wholeness in giving all of Creation a right to be living extensions of Your perfect love.

Gatha Before Eating

A thankful heart is not only the greatest virtue,
but the parent of all the other virtues.
~ Cicero

Gatha Before Eating

The joys and pains of all beings
are present in the gift of this food.
Let us receive it in love and gratitude…

And in mindfulness of our sisters and brothers
among living beings of every kind
who are hungry or homeless, sick or injured,
or suffering in any way.

(Buddhist prayer)

He is God! [Day of the Covenant]

Today is the Bahá’í holiday of the Day of the Covenant.

Give thanks for unknown blessings already on their way.
~ Native American Saying

He is God! Thou seest us, O my God, gathered around this table, praising Thy bounty, with our gaze set upon Thy Kingdom. O Lord! Send down upon us Thy heavenly food and confer upon us Thy blessing. Thou art verily the Bestower, the Merciful, the Compassionate.

How great is your goodness

Not what we say about our blessings, but how we use them,
is the true measure of our thanksgiving.
~ W. T. Purkiser

How great is your goodness, dear Lord!
Blessed are you for ever!
May all created things praise you, O God,
for loving us so much that we can truthfully speak
of your fellowship with mankind, even in this earthly exile;
and however virtuous we may be,
our virtue always depends on your great warmth
and generosity, dear Lord.
Your bounty is infinite.
How wonderful are your works!

O Michael of the angels

Seven days without laughter makes one weak.
~ Mort Walker

O Michael of the angels
And the righteous in heaven,
Shield thou my soul
With the shade of thy wing;
Shield thou my soul
On earth and in heaven;

From foes upon earth,
From foes beneath earth,
From foes in concealment
Protect and encircle
My soul ‘neath thy wing,
Oh my soul with the shade of thy wing!
