Prayer for Friday (Epiphany)

Today is the Christian holiday of Epiphany, called the Feast of the Theophany by Orthodox Christians and Dia de los Reyes (Day of the Kings) by Hispanic Christians.

Wise men seeking Jesus travelled from afar,
Guided in their journey by a wond’rous star.
But if we desire Him, He is close at hand,
For our native country is our holy land….
He is more near us if we love Him well,
For He seeketh ever in our hearts to dwell.
(James T. East, 1860-1937)

Jesus, help us to love you
more than the search for you.
Give us hearts of merriment and gratitude.
Teach us to tolerate goodness, to stable delight.

And Merciful Savior of loss and defeat,
bestow upon us the wit to trust
and to consent to contentment
that your joy and our joy be made complete.

(From Letters from the Holy Ground: Seeing God Where You Are
by Loretta Ross-Gotta)

Wise men seek him still…

Today’s Affirmation:

“I believe in a higher power
that is always present in support of me acheiving my goals.”
