Prayer for Tuesday (Birthday of Guru Har Dai)

There is no counting the number of fools,
No counting the thieves and fraudsters,
No counting those who shed innocent blood,
No counting the adulterers and the traitors,
No counting the liars who take pleasure in deceit,
No counting those who spread malice and hatred.
I do not put myself above any of those people, I am the lowliest of the low.

I have nothing to offer you, O Lord.
My life is not even worth sacrificing to you.
All I can do is try to obey your will.
All I want is to abide in your peace.

(Guru Nanak Dev)

Prayer for Monday

Dear Lord,

Let me seek you by desiring you,
and let me desire you by seeking you;
let me find you by loving you,
and love you in finding you.

I confess, Lord, with thanksgiving,
that you have made me in your image,
so that I can remember you,
think of you, and love you.

But that image is so worn and blotted out by faults,
and darkened by the smoke of sin,
that it cannot do that for which it was made,
unless you renew and refashion it.

Lord, I am not trying to make my way to your height,
for my understanding is in no way equal to that,
but I do desire to understand a little of your truth
which my heart already believes and loves.

I do not seek to understand so that I can believe,
but I believe so that I may understand;
and what is more,
I believe that unless I do believe,
I shall not understand.

(St. Anselm)

Prayer for Sunday

O GOD of all mercy and goodness, supreme and only LORD, who in thy Divine Humanity reignest alone in heaven, and in thy Church on earth; hear us when we pray; and do thou mercifully be pleased to teach us to pray aright; may all our affections be turned towards thee, and all our thoughts engaged in genuine worship.
And may we feel that thou art near to us, conjoining us to thyself in Love and in Wisdom. Earnestly do we pray that our hearts may be open before thee, to receive thy quickening love, and that our understandings may be illuminated by thy clearest light.
And in our prayers may we remember one another before thee remember our brother with charity as we ourselves need the remembrance of thy mercy. May we so love our neighbor as to do him good and to teach him truth. May the welfare and happiness of thy Church be present before us, that we may ever pray for the peace of Jerusalem, its happiness and prosperity.
May kindness to all be impressed upon our life and conduct; may the wanderer be restored to the right way, and the wayfaring man instructed in the truth. And may thy blessings be multiplied upon the faithful, and thy mercies, like the dews of heaven, descend upon all, who forsaking all else, look to thee alone, as the Sun of their spiritual firmament, and worship thee as the Lord God Omnipotent reigning. Amen.

Prayer for Saturday (Vasant Panchami)

Today is the Hindu festival of Vasant Panchami. It is also the Christian feast day of St. Thomas Aquinas.

I bow to Goddess Saraswati, who fulfills the wishes of the devotees.
I pray her to enlighten me with knowledge.

Saraswati is the provider of boons and the one, who grants all our desires.
As I begin my studies, I bow to the Goddess to help me in making it fruitful
and make me successful in all my efforts.

Prayer for Friday

Shehechiyanu
Blessed are you, Eternal God, Sovereign of the universe,
who has given us life, sustained us, and helped us to reach this moment.

How lovely is Your tabernacle,
O LORD of hosts!
My soul longs, yes, even faints
For the courts of the LORD;
My heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.

Even the sparrow has found a home,
And the swallow a nest for herself,
Where she may lay her young—
Even Your altars, O LORD of hosts,
My King and my God.
Blessed are those who dwell in Your house;
They will still be praising You. Selah

Blessed is the man whose strength is in You,
Whose heart is set on pilgrimage.
As they pass through the Valley of Baca,
They make it a spring;
The rain also covers it with pools.
They go from strength to strength;
Each one appears before God in Zion.

O LORD God of hosts, hear my prayer;
Give ear, O God of Jacob! Selah
O God, behold our shield,
And look upon the face of Your anointed.

For a day in Your courts is better than a thousand.
I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God
Than dwell in the tents of wickedness.
For the LORD God is a sun and shield;
The LORD will give grace and glory;
No good thing will He withhold
From those who walk uprightly.

O LORD of hosts,
Blessed is the man who trusts in You!

(Psalm 84 [NKJV])

Prayer for Thursday

May the winds, the oceans, the herbs, and night and days, the mother earth, the father heaven, all vegetation, the sun, be all sweet to us.

Let us follow the path of goodness for all times, like the sun and the moon moving eternally in the sky.

Let us be charitable to one another. Let us not kill or be violent with one another.

Let us know and appreciate the points of view of others. And let us unite.

May the God who is friendly, benevolent, all-encompassing, measurer of everything, the sovereign, the lord of speech, may He shower His blessings on us….

Oh Lord, remove my indiscretion and arrogance, control my mind. Put an end to the snare of endless desires. Broaden the sphere of compassion and help me to cross the ocean of existence.

Prayer for Wednesday (Conversion of St. Paul)

O Lord, grant me to greet the coming day in peace. Help me in all things to rely on Your Holy will. In every hour of the day reveal Your will to me. Bless my dealings with all who surround me.

Teach me to treat all that come to me throughout the day with peace of soul, and with the firm conviction that Your will governs all.

In all my deeds and words guide my thoughts and feelings. In unforeseen events, let me not forget that all are sent by You. Teach me to act firmly and wisely, without embittering and embarrassing others.

Give me strength to bear the fatigue of this coming day with all that it shall bring.
Direct my will, teach me to pray, pray You Yourself in me.

Amen.
