Prayer for Saturday

Rab on concluding his prayer added the following:
May it be Thy will, O Lord our God, to grant us long life, a life of peace, alive of good, alive of blessing, a life of sustenance, a life of bodily vigor, a life in which there is fear of sin, a life free from shame and confusion, a life of riches and honor, a life in which we may be filled with love of Torah and the fear of heaven, a life in which Thou shalt fulfill all the desires of out heart for good!

(Berakoth, Chapter II, 16)

Today’s Affirmation:

Prayer for Friday

God is the light of the heavens and the earth. The likeness of His light is as a niche where a lamp burns — the lamp in a glass and the glass, as it were, a star for brilliance. The lamp is kindled from a blessed tree, an olive neither of the east nor the west, the oil of which is almost incandescent of itself without the touch of fire. Light upon light. God guides to His light whom He wills.

(Qur’an, Surah 24:35, Al-Noor)

It is glory enough for me
That I should be your servant.
It is grace enough for me
That You should be my Lord.

(Arabic prayer)

Today’s Affirmation:

“All things are possible when you are with God.”

Prayer for Thursday

O thou who camest from above,
The pure celestial fire to impart,
Kindle a flame of sacred love
On the mean alter of my heart.

There let it for thy glory burn
With inextinguishable blaze,
And trembling to its source return
In humble prayer, and fervent praise.

(Charles Wesley, 1707-1788)

Lord, make me according to thy heart.

(Brother Lawrence, 1611-1691)

Today’s Affirmation:

“The light of God surrounds me, protects me and guides me.”

Prayer for Wednesday (Holy Innocents)

I posted this last year on Holy Innocents and I cannot think of a better way to recognize this day than reposting it today. I have included the YouTube video featuring The King’s Singers in this post instead of separately as I did last year.

Children Holding Hands Around the World Prayer of the Children
Praying children around the world

Can you hear the prayer of the children
on bended knee, in the shadow of an unknown room?
Empty eyes with no more tears to cry
turning heavenward toward the light.
Crying,” Jesus, help me
to see the morning light of one more day,
but if I should die before I wake,
I pray my soul to take.”

Can you feel the hearts of the children
aching for home, for something of their very own.
Reaching hands with nothing to hold onto
but hope for a better day, a better day.
Crying,” Jesus, help me
to feel the love again in my own land,
but if unknown roads lead away from home,
give me loving arms, away from harm.”

Can you hear the voice of the children
softly pleading for silence in their shattered world?
Angry guns preach a gospel full of hate,
blood of the innocent on their hands.
Crying,” Jesus, help me
to feel the sun again upon my face?
For when darkness clears, I know you’re near,
bringing peace again.”

Can you hear the prayer of the children?

(words and music written by Kurt Bestor)

O God, we thank You for the blessing of children in the world, for their beauty, innocence and laughter. Help us to remember that when we see a child, we are seeing Your face.

Bless all the children of the world, Lord, keep them close in Your heart. God, bless the souls of the children who continue to suffer day-to-day. Please be with them and heal their broken hearts and rescue them from all suffering and abuse. And we ask You to bless all those children who are close to us….

May we end the wars and suffering of the world by ending the wars and suffering in our own hearts through love and forgiveness. May you all hear the prayers of the children and do your part to make them come true. Amen.

Today’s Affirmation:

Prayer for Tuesday

Yesterday was the Zoroastrian holiday remembering the death of the Prophet Zarathushtra (Zoroaster)

With bended knees, with hands outstretched, do I yearn for the effective
expression of the holy spirit working within me:

For this love and understanding, truth and justice; for wisdom to know the
apparent from the real that I might alleviate the sufferings of men on earth….

God is love, understanding, wisdom, and virtue. Let us love one another,
let us practice mercy and forgiveness, let us have peace, born of fellow-feeling…

Let my joy be of altruistic living, of doing good to others. Happiness is unto
him from who happiness proceeds to any other human being.

(Zoroastrian prayer; Source:

Today’s Affirmation:

“I am wealthy in every aspect of my life.”

Prayer for Monday

A Prayer for Openness

Holy, mighty and immortal God,
I praise, thank, and give you glory.
Open my eyes today that I may see what you want me to see.
Open my ears that I may hear what you want me to hear.
Open my mind that I may know what you want me to know.
Open my heart that I may feel what you want me to feel.
Open my mouth that I may only speak the truth and your praises.
Like your prophet Samuel, I say, “Speak, Lord, your servant is listening.”

Prayer for Sunday (Christmas)

(Today Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus. This holiday is also known as the Feast of the Nativity, especially in Orthodox Christian traditions.)

“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.”
~ John 1:14

How silently, how silently, the wondrous Gift is giv’n;
So God imparts to human hearts the blessings of His Heav’n.
No ear may hear His coming, but in this world of sin,
Where meek souls will receive Him still, the dear Christ enters in.

O holy Child of Bethlehem, descend to us, we pray;
Cast out our sin, and enter in, be born in us today.
We hear the Christmas angels the great glad tidings tell;
O come to us, abide with us, our Lord Emmanuel!

(From “O Little Town of Bethlehem,” by Philip Brooks)

Father God, When your precious Son became a tiny baby in a stable in Bethlehem in poverty and simplicity, you changed our world. As we imagine those surroundings, we join with the shepherds and the wise men in wonder and praise. We thank you for our material lives, praise you for our spiritual lives, and trust in you for our eternal life. Amen.

Christ born in a stable is born in me
Christ accepted by shepherds accepts me
Christ receiving the wise men receives me
Christ revealed to the nations be revealed in me
Christ dwelling in Nazareth You dwell in me
Christ, grant that people may look at me
and see Your Presence. Amen
