Prayer for Friday (Mayan Rain Festival)

Today begins the ten day Mayan Rain Festival. It is also the start of the three day New Year celebration for Theravada Buddhists.

Oh, my friend, it’s not what they take away from you that counts.
It’s what you do with what you have left.
~ Hubert H. Humphrey

Cover my earth mother four times with many flowers.
Let the heavens be covered with the banked-up clouds.
Let the earth be covered with fog; cover the earth with rains.
Great waters, rains, cover the earth. Lighting cover the earth.
Let thunder be heard over the earth; let thunder be heard;
Let thunder be heard over the six regions of the earth.

(Zuni prayer for rain)

Prayer for Saturday

Yom Hashoah, the Jewish remembrance of the Holocaust, starts at sundown today.

The Great Spirit gave us each a song.
~ Ute proverb

Oh Great Spirit

Let your voice whisper righteousness in our ear through
the West Wind in the late of the day.

Let us be comforted with love for our brothers and sisters
with no war.

Let us hold good health mentally and physically to
solve our problems and accomplish something for
future generations of life.

Let us be sincere to ourselves and our youth
and make the world a better place to live.

(Lloyd Carl Owle, Cherokee)

This Week’s Affirmation:

Prayer for Friday

Everywhere is the center of the world.
Everything is sacred.
~ Black Elk, Oglala Lakota Sioux

Hold on to what is good,
Even if it’s a handful of earth.

Hold on to what you believe,
Even if it’s a tree that stands by itself.

Hold on to what you must do,
Even if it’s a long way from here.

Hold on to your life,
Even if it’s easier to let go.

Hold on to my hand,
Even if someday I’ll be gone away from you.

(Pueblo prayer)
