Prayer for Thursday (Hola Mohala)

Today is the Sikh festival of Hola Mohalla.The Jewish holiday of Pesach, or Passover, continues today.

Don’t fret about your life – what you’re going to eat and drink –
or about your body – what you’re going to wear.
There is more to living than food and clothing, isn’t there?
Take a look at the birds of the sky:
they don’t plant or harvest, or gather into barns.
Yet your heavenly Father feeds them. You’re worth more than they, aren’t you?
Can any one of you add one hour to life by fretting about it?
~ Jesus (the Jesus Seminar translation)

Mool Mantra and 1st Pauri of Japji Sahib

There is One God
He is the supreme truth.
He, The Creator,
Is without fear and without hate,
He, The Omnipresent,
Pervades the universe.
He is not born,
Nor does He die to be born again,
By His grace shalt thou worship Him.

Before time itself
There was truth,
When time began to run its course
He was the truth.
Even now, He is the truth
And Evermore shall truth prevail.

Not by thought alone
Can He be Known,
Though one think
A hundred thousand times;
Not in solemn silence
Nor in deep meditation.
Though fasting yields an
Abundance of virtue
It cannot appease the hunger for truth,
No, by none of these,
Nor by a hundred thousand other devices,
Can God be reached.
How then shall the Truth be known?
How the veil of false illusion torn?
O Nanak, thus runneth the writ divine,
The righteous path – let it be thine.

Prayer for Saturday (Vaisakhi)

Today is the Sikh holiday of Vaisakhi. It is also the day Hindus celebrate the beginning of the solar new year.

“True Bliss is experienced when ego is non-existent. True Bliss fills the void created by the exit of ego, of total surrender of ego at the lotus feet of the Lord. With ego surrendered, there is no more seeking, all desires disappear, the Sweet Will and Bliss of the Lord takes over.” ~ Guru Granth Sahib

The Lord is the Truth Absolute,
True is His Name.
His language is love infinite;
His creatures ever cry to Him;
‘Give us more, O Lord, give more’;
The Bounteous One gives unwearyingly.

What then should we offer
That we might see His Kingdom?
With what language
Might we His love attain?

In the ambrosial hours of fragrant dawn
Think upon and glorify
His Name and greatness.
Our own past actions
Have put this garment on us,
But salvation comes only through His Grace.

O Nanak, this alone need we know,
That God, being Truth, is the one Light of all.

(Guru Nanak, 1st Sikh Guru)

Prayer for Friday (Hola Mohalla)

Today is the Sikh festival of Hola Mohalla.

May the kingdom of justice prevail!
May the believers be united in love!
May the hearts of the believers be humble, high their wisdom,
And may they be guided in their wisdom by the Lord.

Glory be to God!
Entrust unto the Lord what you wish to be accomplished.
The Lord will bring all matters to fulfillment.
Know this as truth evidenced by Himself.

(Guru Nanak)
