You are father of the world,….

Prayer is not asking. It is a longing of the soul.
~ Mohandas “Mahatma” Gandhi

Prayers of praise and adoration are found in almost every religious tradition. They are said, chanted, or sung to extol the love, compassion, greatness, and/or power of God.

You are father of the world, of animate and inanimate things;
its venerable teacher, most worthy of worship, without equal.
Where in all three worlds is another to match your extraordinary power?

I bow to you, I prostrate my body,
I beg you to be gracious worshipful Lord;
as a father to a son, a friend to a friend,
a lover to a beloved,
O Lord, be merciful and tolerant.

(Bhagavad Gita 11:43-44)

Prayer for Friday

Humility is to make a right estimate of one’s self.
~ Charles Haddon Spurgeon

Be humble, be harmless,
Have no pretension,
Be upright, forbearing;
Serve your teacher in true obedience,
Keeping the mind and body in cleanness,
Tranquil, steadfast, master of ego,
Standing apart from the things of the senses,
Free from self;
Aware of the weakness in mortal nature.

(Bhagavad Gita 13.7-8)

This Week’s Affirmation:

“I give freely without expecting a reward.”

Prayer for Thursday

The light that lives in the sun,
Lighting all the world,
The light of the moon,
The light that is in fire:
Know that light to be mine.

My energy enters the earth,
Sustaining all that lives:
I become the moon,
Giver of water and sap,
To feed the plants and the trees.

Flame of life in all,
I consume the many foods,
Turning them into strength
That upholds the body.

I am in all hearts,
I give and take away
Knowledge and memory:
I am all that the Vedas tell,
I am the teacher,
The knower of Vedanta.

(Bhagavad-Gita, Ch. XV, “Devotion to the Supreme Spirit”)

Today’s Affirmation:

“As I trust my intuitive feelings and act on them
I feel powerful and alive”

Prayer for Wednesday

The Truth Of God

Supreme God, your light is brighter than the sun, your purity whiter than mountain snow, you are present wherever I go.

All people of wisdom praise you. So I too put faith in all your words, knowing that everything you teach is true. Neither the angels in heaven nor the demons in hell can know the perfection of your wisdom, for it is beyond all understanding.

Only your Spirit knows you; only you can know your true self. You are the source of all being, the power of all power, the ruler of all creatures. So you alone understand what you are.

In your mercy reveal to me all that I need to know, in order to find peace and joy. Tell me the truths that are necessary for the world in which I live.

Show me how I can meditate upon you, learning from you the wisdom that I need. I am never tired of hearing you, because your words bring life.

(From Bhagavad Gita)

Prayer for Monday (Bikrami Samvat)

A blessed and auspicious New Year to all on the Hindu New Year.

O Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu!
Please enable me to absorb the Principle of Creation and the Fire Principle present in the atmosphere.
Let the Divine consciousness present in these principles be preserved constantly.
Let the energy thus received, be used for my spiritual practice.

(From Hindu Janajagruti Samiti)

“Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.”
Bhagavad Gita

Prayer for Wednesday

Hindu man kneeling in prayer

O master of the senses, it is right that the world delights
and rejoices in your praise,
that all the saints and sages bow down to you
and all evil flees before you to the far corners of the universe.

Sri Rama's Hand in Blessing

How could they not worship you, O Lord?
You are the eternal spirit,
who existed before Brahma the creator
and who will never cease to be, the Lord of the gods,
you are the abode of the universe.
Changeless, you are what is and what is not,
and beyond the duality of existence and nonexistence.

Ayyavazhi Lotus

You are the first among gods,
the timeless spirit, the resting place of all beings.
You are the knower and the thing which is known.
You are the final home;
within your infinite form you pervade the cosmos.

Prajapati Image

You are air, and You are the supreme controller!
You are fire, You are water,
You are the moon and the creator Prajapati,
and the great-grandfather of all creatures.
I bow before you and salute you again and again.

Aum Symbol in a Gold Circle

You are behind me and in front of me;
I bow to you on every side.
Your power is immeasurable.
You pervade everything;
you are everything.

(Bhagavad Gita – 11:36-40 – Arjuna)

O Lord of all creation, like Arjuna we loudly sing your praises. We give thanks to you for always being there. Fill us with the joy of your presence.

O God, we ask for blessing and healing today for all those who are sick or injured, especially for Mairi and Bob, and any others known to us…

Start the Day with Love;
Spend the Day with Love;
Fill the Day with Love;
End the Day with Love;
This is the way to God.
