Prayer for Monday (St. James the Great)

I had the very great honor of watching someone very dear to me receive a one year medallion for sobriety at an AA meeting last night. And it reminded me that the 12 Step programs are the epitome of the concept of unity. Recovery from addiction is all about working with your Higher Power and with others in recovery.

Twelfth Step Prayer
Dear God, Having had a spiritual experience, I must now remember that “faith without works is dead.” And PRACTICAL EXPERIENCE shows that nothing will so much insure immunity from my addiction as intensive work with other addicts. So, God, please help me to carry this message to others who suffer from addiction! Provide me with the guidance and wisdom to talk with another addict because I can help when no one else can. Help me secure his confidence and remember he is ill.

Prayer for Sunday (Pioneer Day)

Even if a unity of faith is not possible, a unity of love is.
~ Hans Urs von Balthasar

Unity Prayer
I put my hand in yours, and together we can do what we could never do alone. No longer is there a sense of hopelessness; no longer must we each depend upon our own unsteady will power. We are all together now, reaching out our hands for a power and strength greater than ours, and as we join hands we find love and understanding beyond our wildest dreams.

Prayer for Saturday

Whoso loves believes the impossible.
~ Elizabeth Barrett Browning

Today I see through love anything is possible. When I look through the compassionate and powerful eyes of love, I see a different world, a different person. Love teaches me to see what is beneath the surface, what is hidden to my eye but known to my heart. I will not deny love’s wisdom today. I will let it be and work its magic in my life. I will give it freely to others whether they know what I am doing or not. Why should I judge myself or anyone else?Love does not judge, not because it is wrong to do so, but because love is a complete feeling and doesn’t need to look at other things. It seeks to heal rather than to wound. Love is life and God and my Higher Self.
